Wedding Day Coverage | How Many Hours Do You Need?

January 24, 2014  •  Leave a Comment

Things to consider:

  • How many guests do you have? If you have a lot of guests that you would want in group photos that could make things take a bit longer.
  • How long will it take you to get ready? This depends on how many people are in the bridal party as well. We can just get a photo of someone buttoning up / zipping up the dress if that is all you want but if you would like photos of all of you hanging out and getting your hair and makeup done I have seen it take as long as three hours.
  • More formal photos of the bridal party can be taken if we have more time with the getting ready part of the day

A Example of a 6 hour wedding:

Getting Ready: 1 hour

Girls:

  • Dress by itself
  • Bride getting makeup done
  • Bride getting hair done
  • Jewelry / Garter / Flower details
  • Mom and/or maid/matron of honor lacing up the dress
  • Bride with mom
  • Bride by herself
  • Bride with bridesmaids
  • Bride with Matron / Maid of honor
  • Candids of everyone (if there is time)
  • Bridesmaids makeup/hair (if there is time)
  • Rings (If she has them)

Guys: (My second shooter covers this at the same time that I am with the girls)

  • Groom by himself
  • Groom fixing tie
  • Groom with best man
  • Groom & groomsmen
  • Boutineer pinning
  • Watch / Coat any other detail shots
  • Candids of everyone
  • Rings (If he has them)

(You would need more time for getting ready if you have 5+ bridesmaids & groomsmen or if you hair and makeup appointments are far apart or if the style you want will take a bit of time to do)

Ceremony: 30min - 1 hour

Formal Group Photos: 40min - 1 hour

  • Bride & groom with officiant
  • Bride with grandparents
  • Groom with grandparents
  • (Optional both sets of grandparents with bride and groom)
  • Bride with parents
  • Groom with parents
  • (Optional both sets of parents with bride and groom)
  • Bride & groom with ring bearer & flower girl
  • Whole bridal party
  • Bride with bridesmaids (serious & fun poses)
  • Groom with groomsmen ( serious & fun poses)
  • Photos with siblings of bride and groom
  • Extended family if there is time

(You may need more time for group photos if either of you have a very large family)

Photos of Bride & Groom: 30min - 1 hour

Reception: 2 - 4 hours

  • Cake cutting
  • First dance
  • Parents dance
  • Bouquet / Garter toss
  • Photos of guests dancing
  • Decoration Details
  • Photos of Food

(Having us for two hours at a reception is going to be very tightly scheduled. You will have to have someone on top of keeping things moving so that we can capture everything for you. To avoid this if you have a 1 hour ceremony it would be best to book 7+ hours)

You can always add hours on the day of the wedding.

I would recommend not going for the largest package (10+ hours) unless you have a very large bridal party 6+ bridesmaids & groomsmen.
